Six months ago, during the Christmas holidays, one of the teachers at Wembley Primary School was on a lengthy drive from Noosa to Airlie Beach. The drive was fuelled by a diet of podcasts and coffee. This 'diet' served two functions - both as a means to stay awake, but also to avoid extreme boredom whilst driving her camper van for hours on end.
Somewhere between Hervey Bay and Bundaberg she listened to an episode of This American Life, whose story happened to follow a group of middle school kids who ran their own radio show. The radio show discussed what was happening at the school and of course, all the important questions, like: who was going to Prom, and who with and what they would be wearing! What happened next was inevitable: We should do this! Why couldn't Wembley do something similar? ...Hardly any kids read the newsletter anyway!
Before she had even driven through Bundaberg, the idea of a Wembley Podcast was born!
What has developed from that initial thought, is the product of some very dedicated and hard working year five and six students. It's a work in progress, whilst everyone learns on the job, but we hope it brings to life what happens on a daily basis at Wembley.
Each week the podcast will carry stories about what has happened that week at school - interviewing all who were involved. They will promote any upcoming events, and of course discuss all the hard-hitting issues around the school!
So, please subscribe and get listening to What Up Wembley!
